Faithful of Opus Dei who died in the second half of 1999

Maria Teresa Álvarez de Infiesta was one of the first Supernumeraries in Puerto Rico. Born in Havana, Cuba on April 16, 1914, she spent the last forty years of her life outside her native country; but she was grateful to God that this circumstance enabled her to meet Opus Dei. She asked for admission in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1974. She did not have any children. She dedicated herself to caring for vestments and everything related to the Liturgy, and she collaborated in the domestic administration of centers of the Work when needed. Her knack for bringing many people to the sacrament of Confession was apparent in her apostolic efforts. She died in San Juan on September 21, 1999.

Frank Amaturo met Opus Dei in 1960, while working in the School of Dentistry at Loyola University in Chicago, where he served as Dean. He was one of the first promoters of Shellbourne Conference Center in Indiana. Years later, despite failing health, he helped in setting up the first Opus Dei center in Florida. He died on November 13, 1999.

Germaine Biétron de Prudhomme was born in Marseilles, France, on November 25, 1905 and died in the same city on December 7, 1999. He was one of the first people to help out in the beginning of the apostolic work of Opus Dei in France in 1955. He asked for admission as a Supernumerary in 1968. In his final years he suffered from a serious illness, but up to his last day he maintained a holy zeal in speaking about God to those who visited and looked after him. All who saw him, including non-Catholics, were moved and strengthened by his faith.

José Enrique Diez Gil was born in Haro, Spain, on January 19, 1931. He requested admission to Opus Dei in 1948, and in 1951 he moved to Chile where he worked in business administration. He was one of the first to begin the apostolic work in that country. He held various positions in the Regional Commission of Opus Dei and carried out an intense professional work, which resulted in his holding major executive positions in leading companies in Chile. Noted for his industriousness, sobriety and simplicity, he died in New York as a result of liver cancer on August 17, 1999.

Amadeo Ibarra Guerrero was born on April 5, 1921 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. One of the first Mexican Supernumeraries, he requested admission to Opus Dei in 1952. The father of eight children, and a prestigious lawyer, he exercised his profession until the end of his life. He died in his native city after a long and painful illness which he offered up to God.

Anna Indakuli Ungayi was born on December 12, 1949 in Kakamega, Kenya, and requested admission as a Numerary Assistant in 1967. She worked in Rome in 1975 and 1976 and was with Blessed Josemaria in Villa delle Rose in Castelgandolfo on June 26, 1975, a few hours before his death. Anita was noted for her constant attention to everyone around her and her good humor. She died of a heart attack on the night of December 8, 1999.

María Pilar Jiménez Pérez was born in Sisamón, Spain, on March 5, 1930, and asked for admission to Opus Dei in 1951. She moved to Rome, and from there went to work in Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Mexico, where she helped to start educational projects to provide Christian formation to all kinds of people. Piluca, as she was familiarly known, was an example to all who know her of piety, cheerfulness and loyalty. She died in Saragossa on September 29, 1999.
Roberto Marrama was born in Naples, Italy on March 15, 1941. He requested admission to Opus Dei as a Supernumerary upon beginning his college studies. A leading Italian figure in public administration, he held important positions in his native city. He was also professor of administrative law and was active in the development of various apostolic initiatives for the formation of young people. He died in Naples on August 28, 1999 as a result of a cerebral edema, showing great serenity after having received the anointing of the sick and having spoken personally with each of his five children.

Ángel Mínguez Arnau was born on August 12, 1913, in Segorbe, Spain. He asked for admission to the Work in 1978. Four of his six children are also members of Opus Dei. He carried out his work as a banker with great dedication and professional competence. His love for the Eucharist led him to promote nocturnal adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Bearing his final sickness with the supernatural spirit that had always characterized him, he died on September 24, 1999 in Valencia.

Odón Moles Villaseñor was born in Barcelona, Spain, on July 15, 1918. He requested admission in 1946. A physician specializing in psychiatry, he was ordained a priest in 1951, and the following year went to Venezuela. He was the first Regional Vicar of Opus Dei in that country, where he carried out an intense apostolic work. In 1959 he returned to Spain where he served as chaplain of the IESE Graduate School of Business. His priestly zeal, refined and affectionate, characterized all of his activities. He died in Barcelona on November 24, 1999.

Terusato Lucas Sakimoto was born in Sasebo, Japan on April 11, 1957. He studied economics, English philology and international relations. He was baptized on May 15, 1983, and requested admission to Opus Dei that same year. From then on he lived his dedication to God with complete fidelity. He worked first in the diplomatic corps and later dedicated himself to teaching. He was always highly regarded by those who knew him. At the end of January 1999 he was diagnosed with cancer, and bore his illness with great peace as an opportunity to share more intensely in the redemptive work of Christ. He died in Ashiya, Japan, on August 25, 1999.

Elisabeth Testard was born in Saigon, Vietnam, on December 4, 1948. Having requested admission as a Numerary in Marseilles, when a student there, in 1970 she moved to Belgium, where she worked in various enterprises. Moved by zeal to carry out an intense apostolate, in 1989 she set up a bookstore in Brussels, by which she contributed to the cultural and Christian formation of many people. Diagnosed with cancer in 1993, she transformed her illness into a means of sanctification and apostolate. She died on December 18, 1999.

María Teresa Valdés was born in Saragossa, Spain, on April 7, 1934 and asked for admission to Opus Dei in 1953. In 1954 she went to Ireland, where she lived until 1960, the year in which she went to Japan to help with the beginning of the apostolic work of Opus Dei in that country. Her strong character, her positive outlook and her permanent cheerfulness were a constant stimulus for those who had occasion to be in contact with her. She took part in the development of the Nagasaki Seido Shogakko, a primary school in Nagasaki. Later, for a number of years, she was professor at the University of Foreign Languages in that same city. She died on December 23, 1999 in Pamplona, Spain, where she had gone to receive treatment for a grave illness that had been diagnosed a few months earlier and that she accepted with great supernatural spirit.
