Members of the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross who died in the second half of 1999

The members of the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross who died during this half-year are:

Luís da Fonseca Antunes was born on November 27, 1920 in Pousos, Leiria (Portugal). He was the youngest of eleven brothers and sisters of whom five were priests and one a member of a religious order for women. He requested admission as an Associate member of the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross in 1958. He worked as pastor in la Vila Nova and in Sobral de Mortágua. During troubled times in the life of the nation he suffered persecution and calumnies which he knew how to forgive generously. He died in Coimbra on November 8, 1999.

Joaquín Parra González was born on November 1, 1932 in Arjona, Jaén, Spain. Ordained a priest on June 29, 1957, he shortly thereafter asked for admission as an associate in the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross. He was very much loved for his priestly dedication and especially for his availability to administer the sacrament of Penance. Despite the great pain that he suffered in his last years, he spent time in the confessional every day until a month before his death. Offering his sufferings for priests and seminarians, he entrusted his soul to God on the morning of September 28, 1999.

Calixto Sánchez Maldonado was born in Traid, Guadalajara, Spain on October 14, 1927, and was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Sigüenza-Guadalajara on June 21, 1953. He carried out his pastoral work in various villages of the province and in the city of Guadalajara. Later he transferred to the diocese of Madrid-Alcalá, working in Colmenar Viejo and later in Vallecas, becoming chaplain of a residence for the aged. He prayed with great eagerness for priestly vocations and had an intense devotion to the Holy Eucharist. He died on July 30, 1999.
