Closure of the Diocesan Process for the Servant of God Joseph Muzquiz, Boston (May 22, 2014)

On May 22, Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, presided over the closure of the diocesan phase of the process of canonization for Fr. Joseph Muzquiz (Badajoz, Spain, October 14, 1912 – Pembroke, Massachusetts, June 21, 1983). In the ceremony, which took place in the pastoral center of the archdiocese, Cardinal O’Malley said that this priest “showed us what a virtuous life can attain day by day if we open our heart and soul to the graces God is granting us.”

Fr. Joseph Muzquiz was one of the first three priests of Opus Dei and helped St. Josemaría extend the apostolic work through various countries, especially in the United States. His cause of canonization was begun in June 2011. Once the diocesan phase was completed, all of the documentation was sent to the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints in Rome, for its study.
